There are different webcams: built into the computer case or external, connected via a wireless or USB interface. The first type, in turn, is divided into devices and cameras separately connected to the motherboard, operating on the same controller with a microphone. Depending on their type of breakdown, they can also be different.
Instructions
Step 1
In order to repair the webcam yourself, determine the root cause of the malfunction. First, check your computer for viruses, and then proceed to reinstall the device driver.
Step 2
Open the control panel, go to the Add or Remove Programs menu, and then uninstall the driver from the list. If you have the skills to work with the operating system registry, also clean it from the entries of the remote software.
Step 3
Download the updated version of the driver for your webcam model, install it on your computer after rebooting the operating system. If the camera still does not work, check the integrity of the connection wires and try changing the port.
Step 4
If it is built into your laptop, remove the monitor case and check the wiring. Also note if the microphone works if your model is configured with one controller to connect them. In this case, its malfunction can most likely be attributed to an internal breakdown.
Step 5
If you find a mechanical breakdown in your webcam, contact a specialized service center, since the cameras should not be disassembled at home without a special set of tools.
Step 6
You can only disassemble the body of the device yourself without touching the lens, which in total will not give any results regarding the elimination of the malfunction.
Step 7
Even if you find somewhere a service manual for disassembling and repairing your camera, do not do it at home, as most likely you will just completely ruin the device. If your device is still under warranty, replace it with a new one by contacting the manufacturer or retailer.
