The procedure for disconnecting a CD or DVD drive in Windows of all versions is a standard operation and is carried out by the standard tools of the system itself. No additional software is required.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button to carry out the procedure for disconnecting the CD-, DVD-drive and go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the Administrative Tools link and expand the Computer Management node.
Step 2
Select the item "Device Manager" and go to the "DVD & CD-ROM Drives" tab of the dialog box that opens. Call the context menu of the device to be disconnected by right-clicking and specifying the Disconnect command.
Step 3
Return to the main system menu "Start" to disable the autorun function of the selected drive and go to the "Run" dialog. Enter the value of gpedit.msc in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 4
Expand the Computer Configuration link in the opened editor window and expand the Administrative Templates node. Go to the "System" section and select the "Disable AutoPlay" policy.
Step 5
Specify the device to unmount in the directory and use the gpupdate value in the console to apply the changes.
Step 6
Use the Registry Editor tool to modify the required drive parameters. To do this, return to the Run dialog again and enter the regedit value in the Open line. Confirm the launch of the utility by clicking OK and expand the branch
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Policies (for Windows XP).
Step 7
Create a new subkey named Explorer and in it create a new parameter named NoDriveTypeAutoRun. Use 0x20 to disable autoplay for CD and DVD drives, or enter 0xFF to disable all drives (for Windows XP).
Step 8
Change the value of the AutoRun parameter in the HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Services / CDrom branch to 0 in Windows 7 / Vista and use the FF value for the NoDriveTypeAutoRun parameter (for Windows Vista / 7).
