Some users of the Windows XP Service Pack 3 operating system have difficulty installing the driver for their Realtek sound cards. The problems were in the conflict of drivers and hardware (observed in the previous version of the Service Pack). It turns out that the solution to the problem lies on the surface.
Necessary
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver software
Instructions
Step 1
In some cases, the problem is simply the absence of an audio card as a device. When loading "Device Manager", the system shows you that all devices are working, but your audio card is not in the "Multimedia" section. You can check the connection settings of the board through the BIOS SETUP menu. Typically, this is the only way to enable the sound processor built into the motherboard. If you have a separate board and it is not in the list of devices, therefore, the problem remains relevant.
Step 2
It turns out that the secret is hidden in the display by the operating system of this device. For it to be able to show it, you need to download the add-on KB888111 from the official Microsoft website. This add-on is named the Universal Audio Component Driver (High Definition Audio for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003). When you click on the link, select the version of the operating system (Windows XP).
Step 3
After downloading this add-on, unzip it to any folder. In the folder with the unpacked files, you need to find the kb888111xpsp2.exe file, which is located in the us / x86fre directory. Now you just need to download the latest Realtek High Definition Audio driver. All files must be moved to one folder in order not to lose them.
Step 4
Click the Start menu, select Run. In the window that opens, enter the regedit command and click the "OK" button. In Registry Editor, navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Control / Windows folder. Open the CSDVersion parameter and replace its value (from 300 to 200).
Step 5
Restart your computer, then run the kb888111xpsp2.exe file (changing the value of the registry value in the previous step was performed only to run this file).
Step 6
Open Registry Editor again and navigate to the same folder and change the value from 200 to 300 (restore defaults). Restart your computer again and run the audio driver installation. The system will automatically detect the new device and ask to install the standard driver, click the "Cancel" button, you are already installing the driver.
Step 7
Now you just need to restart your computer and enjoy the sound in the speakers.
