High Definition Audio is an audio architecture specification developed by Intel in 2004. It should replace the previously used AC'97 for better reproduction of the digitized audio signal and an increase in the number of channels used. For the operating system to work according to this standard, it must have an appropriate driver.
Instructions
Step 1
Check if there is a need to install this driver. Motherboards from many manufacturers are designed to operate according to the two current specifications, AC'97 and HD Audio. Switching between them is done "manually" - through the BIOS settings or in general by rearranging the jumper ("jumper") on the board itself. Therefore, it is possible that to fix problems with HD Audio playback, you should set the software or mechanical switch to the appropriate position, and there is no need to install an additional driver.
Step 2
If you still need to install the High Definition Audio driver, find the set of files you need. You can find it on the optical disc that came with the motherboard or audio card. If there is no such disk, download the installation file from the Internet. It is not difficult to find it on various sites, but it is better to use the server of the manufacturer - the Taiwanese company Realtec Semiconductor. To a large extent, placing files there can serve as a guarantee of their purity from any viruses and other malicious programs. The link to the Realtec download page related to High Definition Audio is below.
Step 3
Going to the site page, select the row in the table corresponding to the version and bitness of the operating system you need. The Download column of each line contains six download links from different servers - select any of them. After downloading, run the executable file and then follow the instructions of the installation wizard. Please note that the installation process will require a restart of your computer.
Step 4
Setting up the audio system after installation is carried out using the Realtek Manager application - its icon with an orange speaker appears in the tray after installation. And if there are any problems with the driver, first of all check the correctness of the settings described in the first step.
