Step 1
For the Windows XP operating system, the virtual memory is changed through the applet of the same name. To open it, right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties from the context menu list.

In the "System Properties" window that opens, go to the "Advanced" tab. In the "Performance" section, click the "Options" button.

You will see a new window "Performance Options". Click on the "Advanced" tab. In the "Virtual memory" block, click on the "Configure" button. In the "Total paging file size on all disks" section, you can see the total value of the system's virtual memory.

Check the box next to Custom Size to set a new value and click the Set button. When choosing a value for virtual memory, pay attention to the disk that is the carrier of this type of memory. It is best to use the system drive, because virtual memory is more often needed by running programs.

The size of the virtual memory must be 1.5 times the size of the RAM. After changing these values, click on the "OK" button three times and restart your computer.

For Windows Vista and Windows Seven, the setup procedure is slightly different. Open the "Computer" window by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop or once in the "Start" menu.
