Increasing the size of a virtual disk is a standard and fairly widely used procedure. Keep in mind during execution that resizing a disk does not automatically grow the logical volume. This requires additional steps.
Instructions
Step 1
Use the capabilities of the Hyper-V Manager console to expand the size of a virtual disk and its logical volume in Windows Vista or 7. Expand the Edit Disk menu and select the volume to expand. Use the Expand button to authorize the selected action and wait for the process to complete.
Step 2
Call the context menu of the volume to be expanded by right-clicking and selecting the Extend Volume command. Enter the desired value of the disk size in the Select the amount of space in Mb line and authorize the execution of the selected action by clicking the Next button (for Windows Vista / 7).
Step 3
Use the vmware-vdiskmanager console tool included in the VMware package to perform the procedure for resizing a virtual disk in Windows XP. The command syntax must match vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -x Desired size full_path_to_to_to_to | drive_name. Remember that this does not change the size of the logical volume. Expanding the size of the unallocated area will require the built-in diskpart tool.
Step 4
Open the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Run" dialog to use the required utility. Enter the value diskpart in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the tool by clicking the OK button. determine the statuses of all possible disks using the list volume and list disk commands and specify the disk to expand the logical volume. Enter extend in the console text box and wait for a success message (for Windows XP).
Step 5
Download and install on your computer a specialized application VMware Converter, freely distributed on the Internet, designed to facilitate and automate the process of resizing virtual disks.
