Swap files (swap files) are used to increase the total amount of virtual memory that can be used by all processes running on the computer. In Windows, paging files can be located on one or more hard drives. During system installation, a single, resizable paging file is created. It resides on the same drive where the operating system was installed. To optimize performance or other considerations, you may need to move the paging file to a different drive.

Instructions
Step 1
Open the system settings dialog. To do this, click on the "My Computer" icon located on the desktop. In the context menu that appears, select the "Properties" item.

Open the dialog for managing performance parameters. In the "System Properties" dialog, click on the heading of the "Advanced" tab. Click on the "Options" button located in the "Performance" group of controls. The Performance Options dialog box opens.
Step 3
Open the dialog for configuring the settings for using virtual memory. Switch to the "Advanced" tab by clicking on its title. In the group of controls "Virtual memory" click on the "Change" button. The "Virtual Memory" dialog will open. It will display up-to-date information about the current settings for using virtual memory. The list at the top of the dialog will contain information about the presence and size of paging files on the hard disks of the computer. Each item in the list corresponds to one of the drives. When you select a list item, detailed information on the paging file settings on the corresponding disk will be displayed in the "Paging file size for the selected disk" group of controls.
Step 4
Move the paging file to another drive. In the "Virtual memory" dialog, click on the list item corresponding to the disk on which the paging file is currently located. In the group of controls "Paging file size for the selected disk" activate the switch "No paging file". Then click the "Set" button. In the list of drives, select the one to which the paging file should be transferred. In the group of controls "Size of the paging file for the selected disk" activate the radio button "Custom size" or "Size as selected by the system". If the "Custom size" option is selected, specify the minimum and maximum values for the paging file size in the corresponding fields. Click the "Set" button. Click OK on the Virtual Memory, Performance Options, and System Properties dialogs.
Step 5
Reboot your computer. After closing the "System Properties" dialog, a window will appear asking you to restart. Click the "Yes" button. Wait for the computer to restart.
