When a program is launched, a process appears in the task manager that is caused by its launch. Thus, the list of processes corresponds to all running programs that are currently active on your computer. Each active process has its own name, and sometimes it may be necessary to rename it, for example, if you need to organize the running programs.

Instructions

Step 1

First, you need to open the Task Manager. In it, you can view a list of active processes. This can be done in this way. Click Start. Then go to "All Programs" and select "Standard Programs". There is a "Command Line" in standard programs. Run it and enter the taskmgr command. After a second, the "Task Manager" will appear.

Step 2

Go to the "Processes" tab. A list of all active processes will appear. In the "Image name" section, find the name of the process that you want to rename, and click on it with the right mouse button. A context menu will appear. From this menu, select "Open file storage location".

Step 3

The folder with the program will open. In this folder, there will be an executable file that will be highlighted. Click on it with the right mouse button and select "Rename" in the context menu that appears. Now give this file a new name. This will be the new name of the process. Please note that it is the name of the executable file that should be renamed, and not its extension (Exe), otherwise it simply will not start.

Step 4

After renaming, you will see that the file name is still the same in the process list. To complete the renaming procedure, you need to close the process and start again. You can do it like this. Click on it with the right mouse button. Then select End Process from the context menu.

Step 5

After that, re-run the program that corresponds to the renamed process. The process name will now be new. Alternatively, you can simply restart your computer. After restarting the PC, the next time you start the program, the process will have a new name.
