The taskbar contains the most important elements of the Windows graphical interface - the button for calling the main menu of the operating system, the notification area and icons of open application windows. The user can change the position, size and some aspects of its behavior. Sometimes this leads to inconvenient options for placing the taskbar and it has to be returned to its original position.

Instructions

Step 1

Before manipulating the taskbar, make sure it is not docked in its current position. To do this, right-click on the free space on it. The pop-up menu should not have a checkmark in the "Dock the taskbar" line, and if there is one, uncheck the checkbox by clicking on this label.

Step 2

If the taskbar is positioned along the left, right, or top edges of the screen, you can bring it back down by simply dragging it. Do this with the left mouse button, hovering over the free space of the panel.

Step 3

In the latest versions of the operating system - for example, Windows 7 - it is possible, instead of dragging and dropping, to select the desired position in the drop-down list. It is placed in a separate window with settings for the properties of the taskbar and the "Start" menu - open this window by selecting "Properties" in the context menu of the taskbar. Specify one of the four placement options in the list below Taskbar Position on Screen and click OK.

Step 4

Sometimes, to return the taskbar to its place, it is enough to move the mouse pointer to the bottom border of the desktop. In the settings of this GUI element, you can set the command to hide it to save work space. In such cases, the panel pops up from the edge of the screen only when you move the mouse pointer over it or press the Win key. To cancel this setting, uncheck the "Automatically hide the taskbar" checkbox - it is placed in the same settings window as described in the previous step.

Step 5

The panel may not be visible for another reason - its width is reduced to an extremely small value. This can happen as a result of careless movement of the mouse. To restore it to normal size, hover over the one-pixel narrow strip at the bottom of the screen. The signal that you have moved the cursor to the correct place will be its transformation into a vertical double-headed arrow. Press the left button and drag the found edge of the panel towards the center of the screen until the normal size is restored.
