A Windows operating system user rarely needs to work in Safe Mode. Usually this mode is used in case of critical system failures, when the computer cannot be booted normally.
Instructions
Step 1
Safe mode differs from normal mode in that at system startup, only the most necessary programs and drivers are loaded. As a rule, in safe mode, you can boot even with fairly serious failures.
Step 2
To boot the computer in safe mode, press F8 at system startup. It is best to press the button several times at a frequency of about once a second - this will allow you not to miss the moment. A window will appear with options for starting the operating system. Try the Last Known Good Configuration option first, in many cases this will fix the problem.
Step 3
If your computer refuses to boot in this option, you should try Safe Mode. Its selection lines are at the top of the window. You will have three options: Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt and Safe Mode with Network Drivers Loading. Choose the first: in this case, you will get a completely familiar Windows interface. Only the screen will be black, in the corners you will see the inscription "Safe Mode".
Step 4
If you select Safe Mode with Command Prompt, a console (Command Prompt) will be launched instead of Windows Explorer. This mode can also be useful, but you need to know how to work with the command line. If you have a console open, type HELP and press Enter to display a list of commands.
Step 5
How can you use Safe Mode? If you can boot only in it, try starting the procedure to roll back to an earlier state of the computer: "Start" - "All Programs" - "Accessories" - "System Tools" - "System Restore". If the rollback succeeds, you will have a recovered system after a reboot. Recovery is possible if recovery points were previously created on the computer. When working in the console, the start of recovery can be called with the command:% systemroot% system32
estore
strui.exe.
Step 6
Safe mode is useful if several people work on the computer, each has its own accounts, and some of the employees have forgotten their login password. In safe mode, you will be logged in as an administrator and can easily change a forgotten password. To do this, open the "Control Panel", find the "User Accounts" section, select the required account and change the password.
