The Windows desktop interface is known to be an open large folder. The user gets used to this and over time completely loses sight of this circumstance. However, it is still necessary to remember this. Especially when, after turning on the computer, instead of the usual desktop, you see only the wallpaper, while all the shortcuts and the panel with the "Start" button have disappeared without a trace.
A monitor with beautiful wallpaper looks good by itself, but is hardly suitable for practical work. To restore your familiar desktop pattern, try restarting your computer. There is a hope that this is a temporary problem and after a reboot everything will fall into place. But as practice shows, reboot rarely helps in such a situation.
Since the desktop is a large folder, it is logical to assume that Explorer, or rather the Explorer.exe file, is responsible for its functioning and design. Unsuccessful loading of this particular file leads to the absence of the usual shortcuts and panels. But the problem is that Explorer.exe itself rarely takes liberties, unless it is infected with a virus that, once on a computer, penetrates the system registry. Such a virus either damages Explorer.exe or removes it from registry entries altogether. For example, almost all the so-called SMS-blockers, viruses that require payment via SMS to unlock a computer, work on a similar principle. Of course, no messages will help, but the money on your account will be much less.
In order to get rid of the consequences of viral activity on the computer and restore the desktop, you need to get access to the Windows OS registry editor. Press Alt + Ctrl + Del keys. Start the system task manager, in which you need to find the "file" item. In the submenu that opens, select the line "New task", then click on the inscription regedid.
In the Windows OS Registry Editor that opens, find and delete the keys that were placed here by malware. Usually they refer to the Image file execution options parameter and Looks like this:
• Hkey_Local_Machine / Software…. Image File Execution Options / explorer.exe
• Hkey_Local_Machine / Software…. Image File Execution Options / iexplorer.exe
Pay attention to the parameter "shell", that is, Shell. Here, the virus could also have left its traces. This parameter in the registry should only be equal to the value explorer.exe. Any other values must be removed. Now restart your computer and enjoy the familiar appearance of the icons and panels returned to the desktop.
