When running a large number of applications at the same time, one has to face a situation when especially resource-intensive programs try to take away a larger amount of processor time for themselves, which leads to a strong slowdown in the execution of other processes. To gain control over such processes, you can use the priority system.
Necessary
computer, Process Tamer
Instructions
Step 1
Lowering the priority is best for applications that perform a large amount of computational operations and can run in the background. Some tasks, such as archiving large files or encoding videos, take up a lot of system time. It is difficult to perform any other actions while performing such tasks. In this situation, the priority system will come to your aid. One has only to "lower" one of the processes, as the system memory appears and you can normally perform other actions that do not require significant resources.
Step 2
To lower the priority, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open Task Manager. Find the required memory-eating process, right-click on it and highlight the "Priority" item. Then select Below Average from the values that appear. If the selected priority was not enough for you, change it to "Low". Changing the priority affects only the current session of the program. After restarting, the system will automatically set the default priority.
Step 3
To always run the application at the desired priority, create an application shortcut on the desktop that you want to lower the priority of. Right-click on it and select Properties. To start the program with a lower priority, edit the "Object" line by adding the command cmd.exe / c start / belownormal at the beginning of the line. To run with different priorities, replace the / belownormal command with one of the following: / low - low;
/ normal - medium;
/ abovenormal - above average;
/ realtime - click the Ok button and close the properties window. Now, each time you start the application, it will have the priority you set.
Step 4
In automatic mode, the Process Tamer utility will help you lower the priority of a process. The program is free and easy to use. When loaded, the utility minimizes to the tray and monitors running processes. If any process goes beyond what is allowed, the program automatically changes its priority and acts according to the rules. The rules, of course, are set by you, personally for each process.
