Over time, any equipment breaks down. Computer hard drives are no exception. Usually, when they gradually begin to fail, tapping begins to be heard from their body. If your operating system is Windows 7, then when you start the computer, a message about a hard disk failure is displayed. In such cases, a transition to a new hard drive is required.
Necessary
computer running Windows 7 operating system, Norton Partition Magic program
Instructions
Step 1
Connect the hard drive to be transferred to. Download Norton Partition Magic from the Internet and install it on your computer. Norton Partition Magic is needed to prepare a new hard drive.
Step 2
Run the program. In the main menu, find the section "Select tasks". An additional program window will open. Read the introductory information and click Next. The next window will display a list of hard drives connected to your computer. From this list, select the hard drive to which the transition will be made. Then click Next. In the next window, you do not need to change any data, just click "Next" again.
Step 3
In the window that appears next, you need to enter the basic settings of the new section. In the "Size" line, enter the required size of the new hard disk partition. Since this section will be used to install the operating system, it is not recommended to throw too much memory on it. On the Create As line, select the Primary option, and on the drive letter line, select the drive letter. Then click Next. In the next window, just click Finish. The operating system partition has been created.
Step 4
Then divide the new hard disk into the required number of partitions in the same way. The only difference is that now select Boolean in the Create As line. After you partition the disk into the required number of partitions, you need to copy the information from the old hard disk to the new one. To do this, in the usual way, copy the information to the partitions of the new hard disk. Please note - the very first partition that you created will be used for the operating system, so it should be left blank.
Step 5
Now remove the old hard drive and then install the operating system on the new one. The procedure for moving to a new disk is now complete. All data is saved. You may need to reinstall the drivers.
