The main place for long-term storage of information on a computer is a hard disk (hard drive). Random access memory - RAM - serves for temporary placement of data, after turning off the power, they all disappear. For more convenient and secure storage of information, sometimes you need to transfer data from one disk to another.

Instructions

Step 1

The presence of two or more hard disks on the computer significantly increases the safety of data. By copying important information to another drive, you will always have it backed up in case of a serious failure or accidental deletion of valuable data.

Step 2

If you have only one disk, split it into two or more partitions using the very convenient Acronis Disk Director. It can also help if, as a result of a failure, the partition table breaks down and the data becomes unavailable. This CD-ROM program should always be available.

Step 3

If you have multiple disks or logical partitions, install the operating system on drive C and store data on drive D. If you have user data on drive C, you should transfer it to another drive.

Step 4

Before you start moving data, check the available disk space, it should be enough for the transferred information. To check, open: "Start" - "My Computer", in the window that opens, information about the disks present on the computer and the amount of free memory will be displayed.

Step 5

To transfer data, open both disks - the one from which you are going to transfer information, and the final one. If you are going to copy information, select the necessary folders with the mouse, press Ctrl and, while holding this key, drag the selected files to another disk. To move files, simply select them, then drag and drop them with the mouse. In some versions of Windows, this option can also lead to information being copied. If this happens, right-click the file and drag while holding the button to move. Release the button, a context menu will appear. Select the "Move" option in it.

Step 6

If you need to move a large list of files, to select them, click the first file with the mouse. Then move the cursor to the last one, press the Shift key and, keeping it pressed, click the file. The entire list of files will be highlighted. After that you can copy or move it.

Step 7

The selected files can be copied and moved using the menu options. Select the file, click the "Edit" menu item. In the list that opens, select the desired action option - "Copy to folder" or "Move to folder". Next, specify the required directory and click the "Copy" or "Move" button.
