Turning on the computer is easy. You just have to press a button and the computer will come to life. This is due to the power supply unit, which supplies the required voltages, launches programs, and the operation of coolers. But it happens that after pressing the button, nothing happens, the computer does not start. Something is out of order. How to determine if the problem is: the power button is faulty, or the power supply has burned out? The button, most likely, can be excluded, but the power supply needs to be checked. The question arises: how to autonomously turn on the power supply?

Instructions

Step 1

Before starting the power supply, there are a few things to consider. Do not connect the power supply without any load.

Step 2

Do not forget about basic safety rules. If you are trying to determine the malfunction of the power supply and disassemble the case, then in no case touch the board and radiators with your hands when the power is connected. After turning off for about a minute, wait for the capacitors to discharge. The voltage on the heat sink of the power transistors exceeds 300 volts, and there is often no isolation from the block circuit.

Step 3

In order to start the power supply, it is enough to short the PS-ON pin and GND. After opening these pins, the power supply will turn off. In the vast majority of power supply models, the green wire on the wide connector corresponds to the PS-ON pin. But some Chinese manufacturers do not always adhere to the standard, so check everything for your model. On power supplies, a marking is usually glued on the side, indicating the correspondence of the output voltage and the color of the wire.

Step 4

Prepare the jumper. It will help you to close the connectors. An insulated piece of wire is suitable for the jumper. Strip the ends.

Step 5

Connect the load. It could be an old CD drive, a hard drive, or a simple car light bulb connected to the yellow and black lead.

Step 6

Then, short the green (PS-ON) and black leads on the 20-pin connector with the prepared jumper wire. Then connect the power supply to the mains. To disconnect the power supply, just open the contacts.
