Device Manager is one of the snap-ins in the Windows OS management console that contains information about the hardware installed and the resources allocated to it. With the help of the manager, you can determine the incorrectly working device, update the driver or change the hardware settings.
Instructions
Step 1
You can open Device Manager in different ways. Call the drop-down menu by right-clicking on the My Computer icon. Select the "Properties" option and go to the "Hardware" tab. Click the Device Manager button.
Step 2
If you are logged in under an account from the "Users" group, a message will appear stating that you do not have sufficient rights to change equipment settings. Click the Continue button to open the Device Manager.
Step 3
You can select the "Control" command from this drop-down menu. The Computer Management console window opens. Expand the Device Manager snap-in by double-clicking the icon in the list on the left side of the window.
Step 4
You can go to the "Device Manager" through the "Control Panel". Open the "System" node by double-clicking and go to the "Hardware" tab in the system properties window. Click the Device Manager button.
Step 5
In the "Control Panel" double-click on the "Administrative Tools" icon, then expand "Computer Management". Expand "Device Manager" in the control console window.
Step 6
It is possible to run this snap-in using the command line. Call the program launch window by pressing Win + R or by selecting the Run command from the Start menu. Enter compmgmt.msc. The Computer Management Console window opens. Left-click to expand the Device Manager node.
Step 7
To start Device Manager directly from the command line, enter devmgmt.msc. If you work under the "Users" account, the system will display a message stating that it is impossible to make changes to the hardware configuration. Click OK to launch Device Manager in view mode.
Step 8
You can use a keyboard shortcut to launch this snap-in. Press the combination Win + Pause / Break to bring up the system properties window, and go to the "Hardware" tab. Then click on the "Device Manager" button.
