Failures of the Windows operating system can cause problems during its startup. Correction of such errors is achieved by changing the configuration of the boot.ini file.

Instructions
Step 1
After starting the operating system, open the Start menu by pressing the desired key. In Windows XP, select Run. Wait for the new window to start and fill in the available field by entering the msconfig command. For Windows Seven and Vista, enter this letter combination directly into the search box.
Step 2
Press the Enter key. Wait a while for the window titled "System Configuration" to open. Open the Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs. To do this, uncheck the corresponding items.
Step 3
Select the Services tab. Similarly, disable the automatic start of unnecessary operating system services. Click the Apply button. Reboot your computer.
Step 4
If the described actions did not lead to the desired result, reopen the "System Configuration" menu. Go to the "General" tab and activate the "Use original boot configuration" item. Restart your computer again.
Step 5
For Windows XP, you can also manually correct the configuration of the Boot.ini file. To do this, open the properties of the item "My Computer". Go to the "Advanced" tab. Find and click the "Options" button located under the "Startup and Recovery" section.
Step 6
Click the Edit button. After opening the new menu, correct the configuration of the Boot.ini file. If you are unable to complete this procedure yourself, use the automatic boot file repair system.
Step 7
Insert the Windows 7 boot disk into the drive and restart your computer. After entering the OS installation menu, select "Recovery options". Click on the "Startup Recovery" link. Select your operating system and run this utility. Check the stability of the OS after restarting the computer.
