Creating marquee areas is one of the most common operations in the raster graphics editor Adobe Photoshop. You may need to select a fragment to copy, delete, transform or limit the effect of tools and filters only on it. There is a wide variety of selection tools in Adobe Photoshop.

Instructions
Step 1
Select the fragment in Photoshop using the tools of the Marquee group. Using them, you can create a selection area that has a regular rectangular or elliptical shape. The separate Single Row Marquee and Single Column Marquee tools are used to select an area one pixel high or wide that extends across the entire document.
Step 2
Use the tools of the Lasso group to select complex fragments. The Polygonal Lasso tool will create a selection area enclosed by straight lines. Thanks to automatic recognition of the boundaries of dissimilar fragments, the Magnetic Lasso Tool makes it possible to easily select fragments with clear contours. The Lasso tool is used in a freehand drawing style. They can simply outline the desired area.
Step 3
If the selection is an area filled with one color or several colors of similar shades, use the Magic Wand tool. After activating it, but before using it, select the appropriate value for the Tolerance parameter. It is entered in the text field of the upper panel and is responsible for the tolerance when recognizing the boundaries of image areas. Then just click on the desired fragment.
Step 4
If the borders of the fragment that you want to select are quite clearly expressed, but the dynamics of color transitions no longer allow using the Magic Wand, use the Quick Selection tool. Activate it. Then, by clicking on the Brush element in the upper panel, select the appropriate brush parameters. Click the Add to selection button. Paint over different areas of the fragment, expanding the selection to the desired size and shape.
Step 5
A convenient way to select fragments is provided by the quick mask mode. Activate it by clicking on the Edit in Quick Mask Mode button on the toolbar or by pressing Q on your keyboard. Choose black for the foreground color. Hide the entire image with the Paint Bucket tool. Choose white for the foreground color. Using painting tools (for example, Brush) create selection areas. Exit Quick Mask mode in the same way that it was activated.
