The popular optical disc burning application Nero Burning Rom has a very useful image saving function. In addition to the open ISO format, images can be saved in the proprietary nrg program format. In the future, an image of the nrg format can be written to a real optical disc, but the application does not provide an opportunity to extract information from it. What if you still need to unpack the nrg image?

Instructions
Step 1
Create a new virtual optical disc drive in Alcohol 120% if not already created. In the left toolbar of the application, in the Settings panel, click the Virtual Disk link. The "Alcohol 120% - Settings" dialog will appear. In the group of controls "Virtual disk" in the drop-down list "Number of virtual disks" select an item with a value other than zero. Click OK.
Step 2
Open the dialog for adding a new image to the list of application images. Press the Ins button or Ctrl + O or right-click on the list of images and select the "Add images …" item in the context menu, or select the "File" and "Open" items in the main menu.
Step 3
Add the new nrg image to the list of application images. In the dialog that appears, go to the directory with the nrg image. Highlight the image file in the list. Click the "Open" button. The item with the name of the image file will be added to the list of images.
Step 4
Mount the added image to the virtual drive. Click on the element corresponding to the nrg image with the right mouse button. In the context menu that appears, select the "Mount to device" item. A child menu appears with a list of available virtual drives. Click on the item corresponding to your preferred drive.
Step 5
Create a directory on your hard drive where the files from the nrg image will be placed. Use a file manager or Windows Explorer. Make sure that the media where the directory is created has enough space to capture all the files from the image.
Step 6
Unpack the nrg image. Go to the root directory of the media represented as mounted on the virtual drive. The drive letter on which the image is mounted can be seen in the Alcohol 120% window. Select the entire contents of the virtual media. Copy it to your hard drive.
