The iso format is used to store a disk image and differs from regular archives in that it creates a much more accurate copy of the original data. It stores not only the files themselves, but also the file system of the source media (CD or DVD disc, floppy disk, flash drive, hard disk, etc.). This allows you to almost completely restore the original disk from its iso image. Basically, this format is intended for storing images of optical media.
Instructions
Step 1
Use a simple archiver if you only want to extract the files stored in the iso file, and not recreate the original disk with maximum accuracy. Most modern archiving programs can work with this format. For example, if you have the WinRAR archiver installed, then you need to act in the same way as when working with ordinary archives. Having found the required iso file using Explorer, right-click on it and in the context menu you will see at least three items offering different options for extracting files from this archive. You can double-click the file and WinRAR will show you the contents of the disk image without extracting it from the iso file.
Step 2
Use an emulator program if you want to not only extract files, but also simulate the original disk with the highest possible accuracy. This will allow you to use such an iso-archive as well as the optical disk, the image of which it contains. For example, after building a source disc image, the disc menu will automatically launch, as it would if it were inserted into a disc reader. Programs designed for such work with iso-disks can be easily found on the Internet in both paid and free versions. For example, the Daemon Tools Lite program can be downloaded for free from the manufacturer's website using a direct lin
Step 3
After installation, Daemon Tools Lite with default settings will create one virtual device for reading files containing disk images. To mount a copy of the original disk from your iso file, right-click the emulator icon in the system tray and expand the "Virtual CD / DVD-ROM" section. Hovering the cursor over the line starting with the words "Drive 0", select the "Mount image" item in the drop-down list. A dialog box will open in which you need to find the required iso file on your computer and click the "Open" button.
