Step 1
Method 1. Start the graphics editor Adobe Photoshop. You need a glitter texture. This is a picture or photograph of glitter in good resolution. The size of the image must be at least as large as the photo you are going to add glitter to.

Open the source image and the texture file in the editor. Use your mouse to drag the glitter picture onto the desired photo. Reduce the size of the glitter layer if necessary. To do this, use the "Edit - Free Transform" command.

Select the Eraser tool, set the desired brush radius and shape. Erase those areas of the texture layer that cover the key elements of the photo.

To make the sparkles look harmonious in the photo, you need to reduce the transparency of the layer. You may need to change the blending mode. For example, if you have an image of light, small glitter on a black background, it would be wise to select the "Screen" blending mode. Then the black background will disappear, and the sparkles will become brighter accented. Experiment with the parameters for the best effect.

Method 2. If you do not need realistic effects, and you want to add a cartoon glitter to the photo, you will need the corresponding cliparts. On any thematic site that offers aids for working in Photoshop, you can find the necessary materials on request, for example, "glitter clipart" or "glitter clipart". Before downloading, make sure that the proposed images do not have a white or other background and are presented in raster format.

Open the photo in a graphics editor. Crop the image if necessary.

Open the prepared clipart. Select the desired image and use the mouse to drag the image onto the photo. Place the clipart in the part of the photo where the sparkles seem most appropriate to you. You can rotate or resize the glitter image using the Edit - Free Transform command.
