Step 1
Check the sound card settings of your personal computer. To do this, double-click on the console panel of the audio device, which is usually located on the lower left side of the screen next to the clock. You will see a window with sliders that are responsible for the volume level of this or that connector.
Step 2
Find the slider for the microphone volume. To amplify the microphone, raise the slider to the maximum value. Make sure Disable is not checked.
Step 3
Go to the "Recording" tab in the same window. Select your sound card as the recording device. To further amplify the microphone, raise the recording level meter to maximum.
Step 4
Take advantage of the amplification functions of the recording software. Increase the volume of the input signal while recording to make it more powerful. This can be done by moving the corresponding knobs near the recording track.
Step 5
Do not forget also that the recording itself can be made louder, although it is better that the signal is initially strong. Go to the settings interface of your sound card. Find the "Enable Microphone Gain" button. The signal will become more powerful, but considering that you are using cheap equipment, the recording quality will not benefit much from this.
Step 6
Get a mid-range mic and mic preamp. This is the real solution to the problem. You will be able to tune the signal so that it is loud and clear at the same time, without extraneous background and noise, which is unlikely to be achieved using a standard computer microphone or a karaoke microphone.
Step 7
Use an adapter to connect the preamplifier to the sound card. It usually comes in a set. If not, you can get it at any hardware store.
