Step 1
Connect the infrared port to the computer to enable communication between the computer and other equipment. There are three ways to connect the infrared port: via a USB connector, to a motherboard connector, or via a COM port. Choose the option that suits you best. Infrared ports connected via COM and USB are quite simple to connect and configure, but you will have to tinker with the port connected to the motherboard.
Step 2
Remove possible obstacles to ensure normal use of the infrared port. First, the light of direct sunlight, as well as fluorescent lamps, can become a significant hindrance to its operation. It is better to turn off such a lamp during operation of IR devices. Secondly, if there is a TV equipped with a remote control next to your desk, where you plan to work with the infrared port, it is better to turn it off. Also move all third-party infrared transmitters out of the port's range.
Step 3
Connect the infrared port to the COM port connector. Remember the number of this COM port - it may be useful to you later when working with the infrared port. If you connect the infrared port to the motherboard connector, remove the case cover of the system unit, read the description of the motherboard. Next, insert the connector and connect the infrared port.
Step 4
Use the infrared port to connect to a mobile phone, laptop or PDA. To do this, enable it on your computer and device and start transferring data. Also, using the infrared port, you can synchronize information. It is also used to print a document if your printer also has an infrared port. You can use the infrared port to turn a mobile phone into a modem and access the Internet. Install special software on a pocket computer and use the infrared port as a remote control.
