Instructions

Step 1

If you need to install an operating system or restore your computer using an external hard drive, then enable booting from the specified device. Remember that there must be a special section on the USB hard drive containing boot files. Otherwise, this hardware will not be detected before entering the operating system. Connect your external hard drive to a USB port on your computer. It is best not to use the channels located on the front of the case. They can only be activated after loading the OS.

Step 2

Open the BIOS menu by pressing the desired key after turning on the computer. Usually you need to press Delete (Del) or Escape (Esc). Go to the Boot Device Priority menu. It can be located in the Boot Options menu. Find the First Boot Device field, highlight it and press Enter. Install the USB-HDD device in the first place. If there is no such item, then open the HDD-Mode submenu and select USB-HDD. After completing this procedure, the Internal HDD field will move to the second position.

Step 3

Press the F10 key. This is necessary to save the changes and restart the computer. To open the BIOS menu of the mobile computer, you must press other keys. Turn on your laptop and read the inscription located at the bottom of the screen. Press the F2 or Esc key. In the menu that appears, select the Enter BIOS item. Follow the algorithm described in the previous steps.

Step 4

When working with some models of motherboards, you can enable booting from the desired device only for a specific launch of the device. Try pressing the F8 key after turning on your computer (laptop). If after that the menu for selecting devices opens, then select USB-HDD and press the Enter key.
