Configuring the "Select default programs" applet
Instructions
Step 1
In fact, you can use absolutely all programs, but in the end the user comes to the conclusion that he has programs that he uses constantly. As a rule, most programs have the potential to automatically assign their values to the file types being used, but in some cases you have to do this yourself.
Step 2
To launch the "Select default programs" applet, click the "Start" menu and select the appropriate item from the right side of the menu if the style is "Modern", and from the left column for "Classic" design. In some cases, this item may be located in the "All Programs" section, depending on the version of the operating system.
Step 3
If you cannot find the item you are looking for, select Control Panel from the Start menu and run Add or Remove Programs. In the window that opens, pay attention to the left column, select the last item "Select default programs".
Step 4
You are now in the program selection window. Check the box next to "Other". In the list that opens, for each element, you can assign its own value in the form of an executable program. For example, choose Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer as the browser, and use AIMP instead of Windows Media Player.
Step 5
Press the OK button to complete the change to auto-launch applications. Go to the files folder and double click on it, check if the newly specified program opens by default.
Step 6
However, not all programs are displayed in the Program Selector applet. Therefore, there is also a manual change method. To do this, right-click on the file being tested and select "Open with".
Step 7
In the window that opens, select a program, check the box next to "Use it for all files of this type" and click "OK". If this program is not in the list, click the "Browse" button, specify the path to the program executable file and click the "Open" button.
