Today, more and more computers sold are equipped with built-in card readers. This is very convenient, because these devices are compatible with memory cards of most modern digital devices, from cameras to tablets, mobile phones and e-books. But there are situations when the built-in card reader needs to be disabled. For example, there are cases when a card reader "interferes" with the installation of an operating system, and two or three extra logical drives in the "My Computer" panel are sometimes annoying.
Necessary
Computer, card reader, Phillips screwdriver, basic computer skills
Instructions
Step 1
Open the case cover that exposes the motherboard. To do this, unscrew the retaining screws on the back of the case and slide the cover back.
Step 2
Find the connector on the motherboard where the card reader is connected. To do this, just trace where the cable leads from it. The card reader is usually connected to one of the internal USB connectors on the motherboard.
Step 3
Carefully disconnect the terminal block of the cable from the connector by pulling it towards you. After that, fix the end of the cable so that it touches the motherboard and cannot get into the blades. This can be done, for example, by attaching it with a plastic tie or a piece of thin insulated wire to one of the posts inside the case. Make sure the free end of the card reader cable is securely attached and close the housing cover.
