In order not to pay the provider for the creation of multiple access points for connecting computers to the Internet, use a connection through a router (router). General router settings are almost the same for all models.

Instructions

Step 1

Purchase a router of the model you need, taking into account whether you would like it to have a Wi-Fi wireless interface (which is convenient for connecting laptops) or not. However, you can buy a separate Wi-Fi module (in the form of a USB module or PCI card) along with a regular router. If you don't need it, a regular router with several LAN ports will be enough for you.

Step 2

Find the WAN port on the router and connect a cable to it that provides an Internet connection. Connect one of the computers and the router to the electrical network.

Step 3

Configure the access point in the router. Enter the IP-address of the router in the browser (for example, 192.168.1.1), enter the factory login and password. By default, both username and password will be the word "admin" (do not forget to change them later). Entering the settings of the router, set the settings recommended by the provider, while taking into account: - the type of data transfer must match the one used by your provider; - the password for accessing the router after replacement must be quite complex; - the IP address of the computer must be different from the IP -addresses of the router; - the setting of a static and dynamic IP-address on the router must be agreed with the provider and comply with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Step 4

Reboot your router after setup. Check if the computer connected to it has access to the Internet. Connect a second computer to the router using a different IP address, registering this route to the router as well. Please note: the mask must be the same.

Step 5

If the router has a Wi-Fi wireless interface or you bought a separate adapter (for which you will need to install drivers and software first), you can connect two computers together and in this way.

Step 6

Check if the Wi-Fi module is active on the second computer. If not, right-click on its icon in the taskbar and select "Connect." Check if an internet connection is available on the second computer.
