Instructions
Step 1
If you want to create a home local network, then you will need to correctly configure the parameters of the router. Connect this network equipment to AC power. Purchase two straight-through network cables. Use them to connect computers to the LAN ports of the router. Remember that every PC must have a free network card.
Step 2
Turn on your router and computers. On one of the PCs, launch an Internet browser. Open the manual for your network equipment and find out the standard IP address of this device. Enter its value in the url field of the browser. Press the Enter key.
Step 3
After entering the web-based interface of the router settings, open the LAN menu. Select the appropriate settings for the device. Enable DHCP and Firewall functions to facilitate further configuration of computers. Save the set parameters. Reboot your router. To do this, press the corresponding button in the settings menu or simply disconnect the equipment from the mains for a while.
Step 4
Reset the network adapters of both computers. Open the Start menu and select the Network Connections menu. Go to the list of available network connections. Open the properties of the network card that is connected to the router. Highlight TCP / IP Internet Protocol.
Step 5
Check the box next to Obtain an IP address automatically. If the computer will access external resources through this router, then activate the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" item. Click the Ok button to save the settings and close the dialog menu. Wait for the network adapter to acquire a new IP address.
Step 6
Configure the network interface card of the second computer in the same way. It is worth noting that when working with Windows Vista and 7, you need to change the settings for the TCP / IPv4 protocol.
