A cabled connection of two computers is the simplest example of a minimal local area network. There can be a huge number of reasons for creating such a connection. If you have a couple of computers at home, then for sure you want to combine them into a single network. This is usually done to quickly exchange information and access shared files and resources, sometimes this method is used to create a single connection to the Internet. In any case, you will need some skills in setting up such a network.

Instructions

Step 1

To make a cable connection between two computers, you will need at least one network card in each computer. Connect both devices with a network cable. Usually in such cases a twisted pair is used, i.e. RJ45 cable.

Step 2

If you only need to create a local area network between computers, then your actions will be very simple. Open Control Panel, select "Network and Internet", go to the Network and Sharing Center, select the required network connection and open its properties. Enable the settings of the “Internet Protocol TCP / IPv4. Enter an arbitrary IP address and press Tab to automatically detect the subnet mask. Repeat the previous step on the second computer, replacing the last segment of the IP address.

Step 3

If you want to provide Internet access from both computers and absolutely do not want to create two accounts, then your actions will be slightly different. Select a computer that will act as a router. Connect the internet connection cable to it and configure the connections as required by your ISP.

Step 4

Open the TCP / IPv4 LAN settings between computers on the first PC. Fill in the "IP address" field with 192.168.0.1.

Step 5

Open your internet connection properties. Find the "Access" tab. Check the box next to the item "Allow other network users to use the Internet connection …".

Step 6

Open the item described in the fourth step. Specify the IP address for this computer so that it differs from the address of the server computer only in the last segment. And in the "Preferred DNS Server" and "Default Gateway" fields, enter the IP address of the first computer. Be sure to disable the Windows firewall on the first computer.
