Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the network cards on both computers are installed and connected. You can check this in the device manager. Right click on the Computer icon. Select "Properties" from the drop-down menu. This will open the "System" window, on the left side of which select the "Device Manager" section.
Step 2
In the list of equipment, expand the item "Network adapters". You will see a network card with an ethernet controller. Click on it, in the drop-down list click on "Properties". On the "General" tab in the "Status" window, it should read "The device is operating normally." Otherwise, you need to update the driver or connect an external network card.
Step 3
Insert the crossover into the connectors on the network cards of both computers. If the adapter is built-in, then most often the ethernet connectors are located on the back of the computer, above one of the pairs of USB ports. Insert the connector carefully, do not use force. When it is fully seated in the connector, you will hear a slight click.
Step 4
Both computers must be in the same workgroup, but have different names. To check these parameters go to the "Control Panel" and open the "System" section. If necessary, click the Change Settings button. The System Properties window will open. Click "Change" and write down the new names. Reboot your computer.
Step 5
Now open the "Control Panel" and go to the "Network and Sharing Center". The network map is located in the upper part of the window. Double click on the "Unrecognized Network" icon. If you have other networks, this icon will be called Multiple Networks. You need to enable network discovery and file sharing.
Step 6
In the Network section, click on the system message: “Network discovery and file sharing are disabled. Now computers and devices on the network are not visible. Click to change. " Click "Change" and then "Turn on network discovery and file sharing." This may require you to enter an administrator password.
Step 7
To access the drives and folders of both computers, right-click on the drive / folder icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu. In the window that opens, go to the "Access" tab. Check the boxes "Share this folder" and "Allow modification of files over the network." Configure sharing on the second computer in the same way.
