ADSL Internet is still very popular due to its availability and ease of connection. For its operation, it is enough to have a landline phone and a special device - an ADSL modem. The modem can operate in two modes - bridge and router. In the first case, the connection is established on the computer, in the second - the login and password are registered in the modem, while the modem itself establishes the connection. The router mode is more convenient, since in this case the connection is established automatically and the Internet can be distributed to several computers.

Computer, ADSL modem

Instructions

Step 1

The modem can be connected to a computer either by wire, or via wi-fi (if the modem itself supports this technology). The latter option is preferable as there are no extra wires.

Step 2

Connect the modem to the telephone network through the splitter according to the instructions. Then plug in the power and plug the cable from the modem into the computer's network card.

Step 3

Now set your modem to router mode. To do this, insert the disc that came with the modem into the floppy drive and follow the instructions of the wizard. As a rule, at the first stage, the installation wizard will prompt you to select your provider (if it is popular, then it should appear in the list). If there is no provider in the list of available for selection, select "Other provider" and manually enter the VPI, VCI and Encap settings given to you.

Step 4

Next, a window will appear in which enter the login and password for connecting to the Internet. After that, the wizard will exit and the modem will be configured. To configure wi-fi, go to the web interface of the modem and manually enter the network key and password. Sometimes this allows you to specify an installation wizard.

Step 5

Now set up the connection on your computer. If the modem is connected to the computer via a network card, the Internet may appear automatically. Just make sure that the settings for the TCP / IP protocol of the network card indicate “Obtain an IP address automatically”, “Obtain DNS servers automatically”. To do this, go to "Control Panel - Network Connections", click "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties", and then - "Internet Protocol TCP-IP".

Step 6

Sometimes in the properties of the TCP-IP protocol it is necessary to register the IP address, mask and gateway, as well as the provider's DNS server. If the Internet does not automatically appear, you will need to contact the technical support of your provider to clarify the settings.

Step 7

The configuration scheme for a wi-fi modem is the same as for a regular wired one, with the difference that before starting work, you need to install the drivers on the wi-fi adapter and connect to the wireless network of the modem. Then, if necessary, configure the wireless network connection in the same way as above for the network card.
