A modem is a device that provides access to the Internet. If at the dawn of the Internet and computer technologies, modems were installed in the system unit, today so-called external modems that do not require installation in a computer are widely popular. They are more convenient to use. It only takes a few minutes to connect it.
Necessary
- - computer;
- - external modem;
- - disk with modem drivers.
Instructions
Step 1
Place the modem in a convenient location for the telephone line cable to reach. External modems can be equipped with their own power supply or powered by a computer. The power button is usually located on the front of the device. Click it.
Step 2
Find the port for connecting to the telephone line on the panel of the modem. Pay attention to the telephone jack. It should have two connectors, one of which is suitable for a telephone cable, and the other for a cable from a modem. Connect the modem to a telephone wall jack by plugging one end of the cable into a port on the modem and the other into the appropriate jack on the telephone wall jack.
Step 3
Turn on your PC and wait until the operating system is fully loaded. After that, plug your external modem directly into the USB port on the back of your computer.
Step 4
After the modem is connected, the Plug And Play device detection technology will be triggered. Insert the modem driver disc into the optical drive of your computer. In the Plug And Play window, select the location to download the drivers. Select your optical drive and then click Next. The service will automatically install drivers on your computer. The modem is ready for use.
Step 5
Now you need to set up your network connection. Go to the control panel and select "Network Connection Wizard". Use this application to configure the necessary network parameters that your Internet provider should provide you with.
Step 6
Set the necessary network settings step by step in each window. At the end, you will need to enter your username and password (also provided by your Internet provider). Then, on the last line, save all settings. The external modem is now fully configured and you can connect to the internet. To do this, right-click on the created connection and select the "Connect" or "Establish connection" command.
