When installing the popular application "My World" from Mail.ru, it is highly likely that you will receive an unsolicited gift - the Guard. Mail.ru service, which, according to the developers, will help the user to protect the computer from virus programs, optimize software management and perform many other useful functions.
The problem is that Guard. Mail.ru behaves like an insolent Trojan - it loads the processor and memory, slows down the system, changes the default browser and generally feels like the master of the computer. The Sputnik. Mail.ru service manifests itself in a similar way. It is not always possible to remove these applications by standard means using the Add or Remove Programs option in the control panel - they may simply not be in the list of programs.
Press the Win + R keys and enter the regedit command in the program launcher to open the registry editor. In the "Edit" menu, select the "Find" command and write "Mail" in the search bar. Check the boxes next to Section Names and Parameter Names and click Find Next. This will search the entire registry for folders and settings that contain "Mail".
If the found folders and commands refer to Guard. Mail.ru or Sputnik. Mail.ru, delete them by right-clicking and selecting the Delete command from the context menu. Press F3 to continue searching to the end of the registry. Be careful not to delete settings that apply to other programs.
You can try to deal with these applications without using the Registry Editor. Press Win + R and enter the cmd command to open a command window. Write “sc delete Guard. Mai.ru” there. The command will remove this service from your computer.
In the future, be careful when downloading any programs from the Mail.ru software catalog, carefully follow what else you are offered to install, and uncheck the boxes next to the services that you do not need.
