You can use modern video editors to compress an AVI movie by reducing the size, frame size, bitstreams of audio and video, and thereby preparing it for convenient use on the desired device.

Instructions
Step 1
Open the movie in the VirtualDub video editor. To do this, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O, or select the "File" and "Open video file …" items in the main application menu. The "Open video file" dialog will open. Navigate to the desired directory in it. Highlight the movie file in the list. Click the "Open" button. Alternatively, you can grab the file with the mouse in Explorer or File Manager and then release it in the VirtualDub window.

Choose a convenient viewing mode for the source and resulting video frames. To do this, right-click on one of the viewing panels, select the scale in the context menu. Do the same for the other panel.
Step 3
Add filters for video processing if necessary. Click the "Video" and "Filters …" items in the menu, or press Ctrl + F. A dialog for adding filters will open. Click the "Add" button. In the "Add Filter" dialog select the required filter in the list. Click the "OK" button. Click the "Configure …" button to configure the filter, or the "Cropping" button to set the cropping parameters.
Step 4
Activate full processing of the video stream data. In the menu, click on the item "Video" and then check the item "Full processing mode".
Step 5
Switch on the mode of full processing of the audio stream data. In the menu, click on the "Audio" item, and then check the box "Full processing mode".
Step 6
Configure the encoding of the video stream. Press Ctrl + P, or use the "Video" and "Compression …" menu items. In the displayed "Select video compression" dialog, select the item corresponding to the preferred codec. Click the "Configure" button. In the dialog for setting the encoder parameters, set the compression quality and data rate. Click the "OK" button two times.
Step 7
Configure the encoding of the audio stream. Open the "Select audio compression" dialog using the "Audio" and "Compression …" items of the main menu. Highlight your preferred codec in the list on the left. The list of supported audio data compression modes will be displayed in the list on the right. Highlight one of them. Click the "OK" button.
Step 8
Compress the movie with the selected codecs. Select "File" and "Save as AVI …" from the menu. A dialogue will appear. Specify in it the name and directory to save the file. Click the "Save" button. The process of encoding the video and burning it to disc will begin. Progress information will be displayed in the "VirtuaDub Status" window. Wait for the operation to complete.
