Sometimes you want to get a list of files from one of the directories on a hard disk or partition. To accomplish this task, many modern software tools or some additions to the existing system shell (changing registry keys) can be used.

Necessary

  • Software:
  • - Regedit;
  • - Total Commander.

Instructions

Step 1

It is not always convenient to download and install additional programs for just one operation. To get by with the minimum amount of time, it is recommended to change the parameters of the context menu by adding your own item "List of files" to it. To do this, you need to use the standard registry editor.

Step 2

Click the Start menu and select Run. In the window that opens, refer to the empty field in which you need to insert the regedit command. Then click OK or press Enter. Also, the Run applet can be launched by pressing the Win + R key combination. And the registry editor can be launched through the My Computer context menu (right-click on the icon and select the item of the same name).

Step 3

In the window that opens (on the left), find the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT branch. Open it by clicking on the button with the cross. Then open the Folder and Shell directories. Create a new directory inside this folder. To do this, right-click on the folder and select the New Section option. In the empty field, enter the name of the Spisok directory.

Step 4

Inside the created directory there is a "Default" parameter. Double click on it to make changes and enter the following line: cmd.exe / c dir% 1> "List files in directory.txt" / b. Click OK and close Registry Editor. To do this, click the top menu "File" and select "Exit".

Step 5

Open any partition on your hard drive and right click on any folder. In the context menu, you will see the Spisok item you just created. Click on it and a new text document with a list of files will appear inside this directory.

Step 6

With the constant use of file managers, for example, Total Commander, getting a list of files is done in several steps. First of all, you need to launch the program, open the desired directory and select all files (by pressing the Ctrl + A keyboard shortcut). Then you need to click the top menu "Tools" and select the option "Copy file names to clipboard" (for example, 123.txt) or "Copy full names to clipboard" (C: 1123.txt).
