Step 1
Open the program and click the "File" menu item, then "Open" (or use the hot keys Ctrl + O), select the desired photo in the explorer and click "Open".

Find the "Layers" panel (if not, click the F7 key combination), by default it is located in the lower right part of the program. At the moment there is only one layer there - the background. There are several buttons at the bottom of the panel. Click on "Create a New Adjustment Layer or Fill Layer", this button is depicted as a circle, one side of which is painted black and the other white. In the window that appears, click on "Color background / Saturation". Another layer will appear in the list of layers and at the same time a new window will open. Find the Saturation slider and scroll it all the way to the left. You can also use the field for data entry and enter "-100" there. The photo will take on black and white shades.

To save the result, click on the "File" menu item, then on "Save As" (you can also use the Ctrl + Shift + S keys to call this menu). In the window that appears, define the path for the future file, enter its name in the "File name" field, and specify the required format in the "Files of type" field. If you need a direct result that can be posted on a blog, social network, forum, website, then choose Jpeg. If you plan to continue working with the settings created in the document, select Psd, which is the format of the Adobe Photoshop program. Having decided on the settings, click "Save".
