In computer networks where there are a large number of personal computers united in a domain or a common group, sometimes it becomes necessary to block access to a particular computer. For this, both hardware and software disconnection from the network is used, which allows you to restrict or completely exclude requests from other computers or Internet networks.
Instructions
Step 1
For organizing the exchange of network packets, the computer's network card is responsible, which can be external or built into the motherboard (system) board. The output of the network card is easy to recognize by the specific rectangular connector on the back of the system unit. There is usually a network activity indicator next to it. In order to radically stop access to your computer from a connected network (Internet or local), disconnect the cable from the network card. This procedure can be performed with the computer turned on or off. Usually, a transparent connector is attached to the end of the cable, pressing its latch will release the cable hook and allow it to be easily disconnected.
Step 2
However, the direct shutdown method is not always convenient, and then it is better to disable the software programmatically. To do this, decide which network you need to disable. Typically, a PC can be connected to multiple networks at the same time. For example, to a local network and the Internet. For any of them in Windows operating systems, the corresponding connections are created, with the default names "Local Area Connection", "Local Area Connection 2", etc. To see and manage the properties of these connections, go to the Windows Control Panel and open "Network Connections".
Step 3
In the open "Network Connections" window, you will see all the active networks of the computer. Select the connection you are interested in, right-click on the corresponding shortcut. In the drop-down menu that appears, click on the "Disable" item. This command will stop the operation of the network you have selected, and the connection icon will change color to “inactive” (gray). Operations for turning on the network will be similar, with the only difference that in the drop-down menu, click the "Turn on" item.
Step 4
Another means of blocking the selected network on the computer is the use of special programs - firewalls. Designed for comprehensive network protection and diagnostics, these multifunctional programs will allow you to completely block access to the network. For example, using the Eset Smart Security program as an example, the built-in firewall works in filtering mode by default (the network is active and filtered for threats). By calling the "Block network traffic" command from the application context menu, you programmatically stop interacting with networks.
