If you have your own local network or a group of many users on the computer, then it may often be necessary to restrict access to a particular folder containing important files, to give access only to a specific user.
Instructions
Step 1
Create the user you want to share the folder with. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Manage" in the context menu that appears to open the "Computer Management" window. On the left side of this window, go to the "Utilities" section and select the "Local users" folder, then in the right side, double-click on the "Users" folder.
Step 2
On the window menu bar, select Action and select New User. In the dialog box that appears, create a login and password for the new user you want to give access to. Then click "OK" to confirm.
Step 3
Right-click on the folder you want to access, then select Properties from the context menu. In the window that appears, go to the "Access" tab and select "Share this folder" there. Then click on the "Permissions" button.
Step 4
In the window that opens, you will see that “Everyone” can have access to this folder, but they can only view the information. Select the "Everyone" line and delete it. Now add the user (or users) to whom you are sharing this folder. Click on the "Add" button.
Step 5
In the window that opens, click on the "Advanced" button, then click on "Search". Find the name of the user you want at the bottom of the window and select it. Click OK and then again to close both open windows.
Step 6
If you want the user to have the rights to view the contents of the directory, and to add your files to it or change the contents, then in the lower part of the window, check the box next to the item "Full access" in the column "Allow". Click "OK" to confirm. The folder is open to one user, but other users will not be able to view the contents of this folder.
