Instructions

Step 1

To open access to the contents of the directory for all users working on your computer, right-click on the desired folder and select "Properties". Go to the "Access" tab and click the "Share" button.

Step 2

In the new window, you can define who will have access to the contents of the folder. Expand the list of proposed permissions by clicking on the down arrow, and select users by name or the "Everyone" group. Click Add.

Step 3

If you do not want other users to be able to make changes to the shared folder, select only Read for them from the list of allowed actions on the right, and Read and Write for the computer owner. Click the Share button to confirm your selection.

Step 4

In Control Panel, expand Networks and Internet, click Network and Sharing Center … and click the Change advanced sharing settings link. In the new window, check "Turn on network discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing" and "Turn on folder sharing."

Step 5

You can turn off sharing password protection. If you leave protection enabled, you will have to create an account and provide a password to all users who want to browse the contents of your folder over the network. Click "Save".

Step 6

Right click on the folder, select Properties and go to the Access tab. Click Advanced Setup to view the contents of the folder over the network. In the properties window for advanced settings, check the box next to Share this folder. In the line "Share parameters" you can enter a new folder name, which will be visible over the network.

Step 7

Limit the number of users who have access to the folder, if you see fit. Click the Permissions button. If you decide to open the folder for all hosts, check the "Everyone" group and set the list of allowed actions for it. Click OK to confirm.
