Many users already know how to divide local disks into several elements. But not everyone knows that this process can be carried out even with the disk on which the operating system is installed.

Step 1
If you are planning to install a different operating system, while simultaneously dividing the hard disk into several partitions, then the installation discs of the Windows Vista or Seven operating systems will help you.
Step 2
Begin the installation process for one of these operating systems. The installer has an intuitive interface, so you shouldn't have any problems. When the process comes to selecting a hard disk or its partition, click the "Disk Setup" button. Select the local drive where the operating system is installed and click the "Remove" button.
Step 3
Then click the "Create" button, specify the file system of the future local disk and its size. Repeat this step to create another section. Note: the local drive where the OS was installed will be formatted. Take care of the safety of important data in advance.
Step 4
If this method does not suit you, and it can happen, if you do not want to remove the existing operating system, then a special program will help you. Let's take one of the many similar utilities as an example.
Step 5
Download the Partition Manager program. It is specifically designed to work with hard drives. Select the required version of the program and install it.
Step 6
Start Partition Manager. Activate expert mode. Go to the "Quick Create Section" menu. Select your system drive and click Next. Select the file system of the future disk, set its size. Note: a new disk can only be created from an unallocated area of the system partition.
Step 7
After completing all the settings, click the "Apply" button. It is located on the toolbar of the program. After a while, the program will offer to restart the computer. This is required to complete the operation, because the system drive cannot be changed while working in a Windows environment.
