After reinstalling the Windows operating system, you may encounter a problem with access to certain folders. It is usually caused by the fact that some directories have been shared with specific users.

Step 1
To regain access to the desired folder, you need to change the owner or turn it into a network share. The first method is the safest. In Windows XP, open My Computer by choosing it from the Start menu.

In the running explorer window, navigate to the desired folder. Click on its icon with the right mouse button and select "Properties". Go to the Security tab. In the warning window that appears, click the Ok button.

Now click the Add button. Enter the name of the account you are currently working with. Click the Ok button. After returning to the previous menu, check the boxes in front of all the items in the "Allow" column.

Save and close the dialog by clicking Apply. Change the access parameters for the rest of the directories in the same way.

For Windows Seven, open the properties for the desired folder and select the Security menu. Click the Advanced button. Select the "Owner" tab.

Fill in the "Name" field with the name of the active account. Activate the item "Replace owner of subcontainers and objects" by checking the box next to it. Click the Ok button. Confirm the specified parameters by clicking the "Yes" button.

If you do not want to change the owner of the directory, but you need to access a specific folder, follow a different procedure. Open directory properties and select the Security tab. Click the "Change" button.

Highlight the required account. Change the settings for accessing the folder by checking the boxes next to the required items. Click the "Apply" and Ok buttons. It is worth noting that in the described menu, you can simultaneously change the permissions for all existing accounts created on this computer.
