To work in the graphics editor Photoshop, the concept of "layer" is very important. You can think of layers as virtual surfaces on which graphics are placed. There can be as many layers as you like, you can create and delete them, swap them and create one from several. Being able to cut a layer is one of the essential skills for successful image editing.
Instructions
Step 1
Open a document that contains a layer or multiple layers. Expand the palette with layers, if collapsed. Pay attention to the strip at the bottom of the palette with icons for trash can, yin-yang, fx and others. Click on the layer you want to cut. Press Del on the keyboard.
Step 2
If nothing happens, drag the layer to the trash can in the icon strip. If that doesn't help, open the Layer tab, then Delete and click on Layer. The layer will be deleted, in other words, it will be permanently cut from the document.
Step 3
Open an image containing one or more layers. Cut the layers, that is, make them invisible, editable, but not affecting the original image itself. First, take a look at the layers palette. To the left of the layer, you will see a square containing an eye. It means that the layer is visible. Click on the square to remove the eye. The layer will become invisible, that is, cut out.
Step 4
If you need to cut a layer from an image to make a copy of it, open the image. Select the area with the Marquee Tool or press the B button. Click on the Layer tab, open the New group and click on Layer via Copy. Instead, you can also press Ctrl + J or right-click inside the previously formed selection and select Layer via Copy from the pop-up context menu.
Step 5
Load the file into Photoshop. Select the desired area with the Marquee Tool. Click on the Layer section in the top menu to expand it. Then select New and click in the drop-down menu on Layer via Cut (Cut to a new layer).
Step 6
The area will be clipped from the document onto a new layer, creating a transparent area in the file itself. You can also use the "hot" combination Ctrl + Shift + J or right-click inside the selection and select the appropriate item.
