Photoshop provides a ton of ways to make the border of an image transparent. Usually the choice depends on the frame itself - it can be drawn, for example, using the Brush, Freehand Shape, or even Text tools. In each case, it is more convenient to use different methods of regulating transparency. Perhaps the simplest of the options is described below.

Instructions
Step 1
If you have not done the preparatory operations yet, then start Adobe Photoshop and open the picture, which should be placed in a transparent frame. The easiest way to load an image is using the CTRL + O hotkeys, which activate the file open dialog box.
Step 2
When the file is loaded, create a layer with a copy of the image. This can be done by pressing the key combination CTRL + J. All operations you will perform with this layer.
Step 3
As a reference, make the simplest version of the frame - a rectangle starting from the edges of the image, the same width on all sides. To do this, you need to open the Blending Effects window. Right-click the created layer and select Blending Options from the context menu. A window will open in which you need to select the lowest effect in the list of styles - "Stroke".
Step 4
On the settings tab of this effect, first open the "Position" drop-down list and select the "Inside" item.
Step 5
Then select "Stroke Type". There are three options - gradient, pattern and color. Depending on the choice, the list of settings for this section will also change. For example, if you select "Gradient", then clicking the picture in the drop-down list, you turn on the editor and get access to the palette for selecting and modifying gradient fill patterns. In addition, you can choose the style and angle of the gradient frame design.
Step 6
When you're done with choosing a frame style, select its size using the topmost slider on this tab. Then with the slider at the inscription "Opaque." adjust the transparency of the frame. All these actions will be immediately displayed in the picture, i.e. you need to choose the parameters visually.
Step 7
When the result is satisfactory, click "OK". To save the work for further editing in Photoshop format press CTRL + S, and then the "Save" button. And you can save the finished picture with a frame in a convenient graphic format by pressing alt="Image" + SHIFT + CTRL + S. You will be prompted to select in addition to the file format and image quality settings. Once done, click Save and specify a name and location for the file.
