When working with a computer, you have to deal with the search for the necessary information quite regularly. When working on a voluminous text document, from time to time you have to look for already typed fragments. When browsing web pages with texts, it is sometimes necessary to find information in them related only to the desired topic. And to find such pages on the Internet, you also have to use the search.
Instructions
Step 1
If your computer is running Windows 7 or Vista, you can use File Explorer to find the text file that contains the fragment you want. Start the file manager by clicking on the icon pinned to the taskbar or by pressing the Win + E keyboard shortcut. Navigate the directory tree to a folder, one or more files of which, in your opinion, should contain the text with the desired fragment.
Step 2
In the field under the window control buttons in the upper right corner, type a word or phrase from the search text. Explorer will start searching for the slice, but by default it will only search for file names. At the end of this procedure, icons will appear in the right panel of the program under the heading "Repeat search in" - click on the icon with the text "File contents". "Explorer" will repeat the search and display a list of files containing the specified fragment - open the desired one by double-clicking.
Step 3
To search for a fragment in a text editor, use the specially designed dialog. In most programs, it can be invoked by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F. For example, in Microsoft Word, as a result of this action, an additional column appears to the left of the text, at the top of which there is a field for entering the desired fragment - type it and press Enter. Word will find all matching phrases in the text of the document and highlight them with a yellow background.
Step 4
Searching for text on a page of a website opened in a browser window is initiated by the same keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F. In these applications, the search pattern input field usually appears at the top or bottom (depending on the browser type) of the window. Enter the desired text in it and press Enter. To quickly move from one found fragment to the next, use the F3 key.
Step 5
If you do not know the address of the site page with the required text, use search engines. All search engines place the field for entering the required fragment on their main page. By default, they search on site pages for the words you listed in your query. To search for an entire phrase, enclose it in quotation marks.
