The drive label is used to identify the required volume and is displayed next to the drive letter. Missing the label will result in the Local Disk value. The size of the label cannot exceed 32 characters in the NTFS file system or 11 characters in the FAT file system, and in the latter only upper case can be used. The space character, as opposed to tab characters, is acceptable.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system by clicking the "Start" button to perform the operation of changing the grid of the selected disk and go to the "My Computer" item.
Step 2
Specify the volume to be labeled and press the F2 function key.
Step 3
Enter the desired value for the new volume label in the corresponding field and confirm the execution of the command by pressing the Enter function key.
Step 4
Use the option to change the label of the selected disk during the formatting operation, or return to the main menu "Start" to carry out the necessary procedure using an alternative method using the "Registry Editor" tool.
Step 5
Go to Run and enter regedit in the Open field to run the utility.

Confirm the execution of the run command by clicking OK and expand the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDriveIconsdisknameDefaultLabel.
Step 7
Change the values for @ = DISK drive_name as needed and exit the Registry Editor tool to apply the selected changes.
Step 8
Return to the main menu "Start" again and go to the "Run" item to perform the operation of re-labeling the selected volume using the third method using the "Command Prompt" tool.
Step 9
Enter the value cmd in the "Open" field and confirm the launch of the tool by clicking the OK button.
Step 10
Enter the value label disk_name: label in the command interpreter text box and confirm the change label command by pressing the Enter softkey.
