A volume label is a special configuration used to create hard disk volumes. It is not recommended to change it as you may lose some user files.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the Start menu and launch the Run software utility. In the small window that appears, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter. The Hard Disk Management Configuration Utility appears. If you could not start it this way, use the "Administrative Tools" menu item in the computer control panel. In the window that appears, select the "Disk Management" menu item on the left.
Step 2
Browse all available storage devices. Review the volume labels (letters) assigned to the storage media. If you need to change it, right-click on the disk device and select Change Drive Letter or Drive Path.
Step 3
Please note that if it contains the operating system and Program Files, there is a huge chance of losing all user data and then reinstalling Windows. If this is a regular disk that stores files that are not associated with installed programs or the operating system, then the maximum you run the risk is to knock down the path to the data, possibly registered by this or that program.
Step 4
If you want to change the volume label of a removable disk, for example, a phone memory card, change this option in the same menu, but it is best to back up data on a local disk of your computer, as it may be completely or partially lost. When changing the volume label of the card, keep in mind that in the future it may become unavailable for reading on your mobile device, and also some data cannot be used for one purpose or another.
Step 5
If this happens, format the renamed removable media from safe mode. Then format using a mobile device, only then start using the card in the usual way. When you change the volume label of a removable hard drive, check to see if it contains torrent files, as you may lose a download.
