It is customary to start a new paragraph in the text with a red line. This allows you to visually highlight a group of sentences united by a common meaning. In electronic documents, for example, created in Microsoft Office Word, the first line indent of each new paragraph can be set automatically. If you do not need the red line in the text, there are several ways to remove it.

Necessary

  • -text editor;
  • -mouse;
  • -keyboard.

Instructions

Step 1

Disable automatic indentation for every new paragraph. To do this, select the piece of text that you want to edit, or all of the text. If you only need to correct one paragraph, you can simply position the mouse cursor anywhere in the text of that paragraph.

Step 2

Go to the "Home" tab and click on the arrow button in the "Paragraph" section. A new "Paragraph" dialog box opens. You can also call it in another way: right-click on any part of the text, select "Paragraph" from the drop-down menu by clicking on it with the left mouse button.

Step 3

In the window that opens, go to the "Indents and Spacing" tab. In the "Indentation" section, in the "First line" field, use the drop-down list to set the value "None". Click OK in the lower right corner of the window for the new settings to take effect. The Paragraph dialog box will close automatically, and the red line in the text will be removed.

Step 4

You can also edit the text yourself. Position the mouse cursor in front of the first printable character in a new paragraph and press the Backspase key. The line will shift to the left. If the red line in the text was inserted automatically or with the Tab key, this will be enough.

Step 5

If the red line was inserted by repeatedly pressing the Space key, you need to remove all spaces before the beginning of the text. Make hidden formatting characters visible. To do this, go to the "Home" tab and click in the "Paragraph" field on the button with the "¶" symbol.

Step 6

After pressing the button, all non-printable characters will become visible. A space is indicated by a “•” symbol. How many times the Space key has been pressed, so many characters will be in the text. Delete them using the Backspace or Delete key. To return to the normal view of the document, once again click on the "¶" button in the "Paragraph" section.
