An important structural element of a document is a paragraph, or red line. The red line prevents the text from merging into a solid, hard-to-read document.

In order for a document to have a logical, clear structure, it is necessary to format it. One of the key formatting parameters is the red line - indentation with a certain interval at the beginning of the paragraph.

Ways to form a paragraph

In a Word - a text document - it is possible to set the red line in several ways.

First, with a ruler. The ruler is a tool on the toolbar. Be aware that it can be disabled. Therefore, you first need to enable it by clicking the left mouse button in the upper right corner. You will see on top, above your document, a scale with a slider located on it. With it, you will set the paragraph boundaries. The slider sets both the right border of the sheet and the indent of the first line, that is, a paragraph. To do this, move the mouse cursor to the middle of the slider - the cursor turns into an arrow pointing downwards - and drag it by 1, 5 points. If the paragraph appears, then you did everything right.

This method is suitable if you are typing right away. If the text has already been typed, you need to select it and use the same slider or marker to indent the first line. It is also possible to double-click on the selected text and select a "paragraph" in the opened dialog box and there to put indents on all sides, including the red line.

You should know that by default in the "paragraph" tab all indents are already set, only you need to press the enter key after the paragraph is finished, so the cursor will automatically move to another line.

A text document in Word format allows you to perform this operation in one more way: using tabs. It's the key on the left of the keyboard, the Tab button. It is enough to click on it, and the cursor will move to 1, 5 points, forming a paragraph indent.

How it is not recommended to make a paragraph

It is highly undesirable to set a paragraph using the "space" key, since further formatting of the document may cause problems due to unnecessary non-printable characters, for example, line displacement may occur.

How to make a red line in a Word is up to you. The main thing is to choose one method and not combine two or more at once.
