Typically, local area networks are created to provide relatively fast data exchange between the computers that are part of them. At the same time, the belonging of a certain PC to a network facilitates the process of its configuration and administration of the network as a whole.

Before the active development of the Internet, mainly working local networks were created. Their existence made it possible to provide convenient work on certain tasks from several computers at once. Despite the fact that modern computers have relatively high performance, it is far from always enough to perform the most complex tasks. Creation and correct configuration of a local network allows several computers to work on solving a specific problem at once. This significantly reduces the time spent on its implementation.

Local area networks have gained immense popularity in various companies and offices. First, it became possible to work with shared databases. Travel companies, for example, do not need to constantly contact airlines to check availability. A huge number of users can simultaneously book tickets, thereby working with certain files in the network mode.

Some networks have the advantage of saving time and money. For example, within a relatively large office, only one printer can be installed. Every user can access it. This eliminates the need to purchase a large number of printing devices. Of course, you can constantly transfer files on different drives to the desired computer. This method takes a huge amount of time. At the same time, the computer to which the printer is connected will be constantly busy.

From the foregoing, we can conclude that local networks are designed to save money and time, while simultaneously making the joint work of several people convenient and highly productive.
