The ICQ application is the most popular instant messaging program on the Internet today. In the international version it is called instant messenger ICQ, and in the Russian-speaking sector of the network it is simply ICQ. After installation with default settings, the application appears on the screen every time the computer boots, which after a while becomes annoying. This is the main, though not the only reason why it becomes necessary to disable ICQ.

Step 1
The most radical way to disable ICQ is to uninstall it. If you decide to use it, open the main menu of the operating system and click the link "All programs". Find and open the folder whose name is made up of the name and version number of ICQ (for example, ICQ7.6). In it, activate the uninstall command - click the line with the text Uninstall or "Uninstall". After that, the program will start working, which in the process of uninstalling the program may ask you several questions about the uninstallation parameters, which should be answered by clicking the corresponding buttons in the dialog boxes that appear.
Step 2
If you just need to disable the automatic launch of this messenger every time you boot your computer, use the settings of the program itself. They can be accessed, for example, by opening the drop-down list with the inscription "Menu" in the upper right corner of the main application window and selecting the "Settings" line in it. In the window for changing settings, select the "Login" section in the "Advanced" section. In the second line of the right-hand side of this tab, there is a checkbox with the inscription "Start ICQ at computer startup" - uncheck it and click OK.

If a firewall program is installed on the computer, then you have the opportunity to use it to deny ICQ access to the network. The procedure in this case will be different for different versions of the firewall. For example, if you are using AVG Internet Security 2012, click on the application icon in the tray to open its interface and click on the Firewall icon. Then find and click the "Advanced options" link - another window with a list of applications will open. This list is presented in table format, find the line reserved for ICQ in it, and click on the inscription in the second column ("Action"). As a result, a list of options will open, in which you need to select the top line - "Block". Then close the window by clicking OK, and the next one by clicking the Save Changes button.
